Every year my mom and I try to get down to Florida for a short trip together. We have family in Florida, so we always seem to see the same areas and go to the same places, but this year we explored new areas that we have never really spent much time in… Even some places we’d never been before. I’m not sure what Naples, Florida is actually known for, but when I think of Naples, I think retirement and golf courses. Sure, Naples does have some impressive looking golf courses, but it is also packed with a huge assortment of restaurants, shops and entertainment.
This year on our trip to Naples, my mom and I wandered down Fifth Avenue on two different occasions. We had been on Fifth Avenue before for a quick walk at night and a dinner at Yabba in previous years, but it was so fun this year to casually walk around and re-see the shops at night before they were all closing and during the daytime for some serious Christmas shopping.
On our night walk without my grandpa, my mom and I stumbled upon this side street, called Rue de Fleur; words cannot express the awe of finding this little alleyway. I felt like I was having a moment straight out of Midnight in Paris. The sky was dark, there was a definitive mist coming out of the sky and this beautiful street was lit up, looking like the perfect Parisian passageway. I want to write a post just about this experience, I swear. It was the most perfect surprise. And to top it all of, at the end of the street was a pretty place called Brambles, an English tea room.
Later, we stopped by Third Street. I had never been, and my mom hadn’t in ages. Again, seriously overwhelmed by the amount of places to shop and eat! Oh my gosh. We shopped less on Third Street than we did on Fifth Avenue, but I thought the Christmas decor alone on Third was well worth the trip. To me, giant Christmas trees and wreaths seem so out of place in the warmth and green of Florida, but that makes them even more enjoyable, I think.
