Dressing for the first day of class in college is so much different than dressing for the first day of class in high school. When I was in high school, I would get so excited about the first day of school. Everyone dressed to the nines. There was no shame in it. Dressing for college- that’s another story. It’s different for everyone. Some people roll right out of bed and into their 9 am class. One or two still dress to the nines. Then there’s me. I rest somewhere in between, still really caring what I look like and wanting to put in the effort but not wanting to look like I tried too hard. In the end I try really hard to look like I wasn’t trying. To me it’s all about the perfect combination of casual and cute.

Today I’ve paired two very simple items- my plain, white Old Navy tank and my colored American Eagle skinny jeans to look relaxed. Then I added summery accessories to add a little effort to the outfit- my custom coordinates necklace from A-List Greek, my Jack Rogers lookalikes and my sailor’s bracelet from Door County, WI.

Sometimes I like to wear shorts to class, but I get cold very easily, so I tend to prefer wearing warmer clothes even when it’s 80 degrees outside because the classroom AC is always blasting. I can’t concentrate if I’m shivering!

I received this backpack from Granite Gear just in time for back-to-school season. There were a few key features that really made me want to try this backpack. Most of all I was drawn into all of the comfort features built into this backpack. The shoulder straps have load-absorbing pads and the back of the backpack has padding to help support your back. I was always the type of student to skip the bus or bike, so I spent a lot of time walking around with a heavy backpack on my back and could have used these features when I was in college. The bag also has a protective, cushioned computer pocket that fits laptops up to 17″. I liked that too!

The bag overall is much bigger than I thought it would be. I’ve always gone for more of a cute, small backpack. This bag is definitely very functional and comfortable though. For a college student hauling around a laptop, an armload of books and any other on-campus necessities, it actually seems to be a good pick. It all depends on your personal style and the level of functionality you want (because the functionality of this backpack is on point). Granite Gear also has smaller options, of course!

Finding my Floppy Hat | Although you might not need a floppy hat for class, I’m obsessed with the simple cream peplum top, jeans and little black booties I paired my hat with. It would make the perfect casual, chic outfit for the first day of class.

Chambray & Brights | This chambray shirt dress and bright, light-weight scarf are great for the first day of class; it’s a super quick outfit to pull together and very comfy.

My favorite college style bloggers for more inspiration:

Style by Liv | Olivia just graduated like me (eek!) but has continued to post great outfit ideas for college students. She has a way of pairing a comfy tee with the perfect jeans and accessories to make a winning first day of class look. One of my favorite posts from Style by Liv is her post specifically on college fashion. She covers exactly what she wears to class and features a super cute “happy camper” graphic tee. She also spills on what brands carry the comfiest jeans- a must-have for class.

Bowtiful Life | Although recently Megan has been documenting her travels around Europe, she is constantly linking her preppy outfits for us all to shop. My favorite thing about Megan’s Bowtiful Life is in one post she can be sporting Lilly Pulitzer, Kendra Scott and J. Crew, and in the next she’s found a steal at Old Navy or Forever 21. Life is all about balance! I love this shirt dress Megan wore around Poland.

Mostly Morgan | Morgan is neither a college blogger or a style blogger, but she used to be a college blogger until she quit school and moved out to New York for an amazing internship. She doesn’t focus on college lifestyle topics anymore, and it doesn’t seem like she’ll be posting college content any time soon, but her old posts are still really relevant and high-quality. With that being said, I still love her old post about the best looks for back-to-school because she covers so many styles and options. From girly to sporty, she covers it all!

What will you be wearing for your first day of class?

Summer Essentials 2016

Summer Essentials 2016

If you’ve been around long enough, you know a few things about me: I’m forever in love with summer and obsessed with pink. If you haven’t been around long, you probably still figured it out pretty quick. The official first day of summer is June 20, but school is out, the weather is warm and I just got back from vacation (come back soon for my vacation recap), so to me it’s already summer. Because I’m already in the summer mood and in honor of the official first day of summer coming up, I compiled a list of my favorite essentials for Summer 2016. I mean, you have to have time to prep, right? So the earlier the better, I guess! Here are my must-haves this summer:

Textured Summer Straw Hat – I tried on this hat when I was at J.Crew over the weekend, and it was adorable. If you are looking for a super floppy hat, this summer hat isn’t for you. It has a shorter brim than the traditional “floppy hat” and well, just doesn’t really flop that much. It looks more formal and elegant than its casual counterpart.

J.Crew Beaded Tassel Earrings – Summer can get hot… Duh, right? But when it’s 95 degrees out, I don’t like wearing anything that clings to my body or is too heavy. So, instead of wearing a chunky statement necklace, in the summer I like to trade my necklace in for a pair of bold statement earrings like these beaded tassel earrings from J.Crew. With earrings, you won’t feel weighted down or have heavy jewelry sticking to your chest or wrists when it’s hot and humid outside.

Lilly Pulitzer iPhone 6/6s Cover – Under My Umbrella – I currently have a black and gold Kate Spade case on my phone that I’ve been obsessed with ever since I bought it with my iPhone, but it’s no longer right for the season. I swear, my phone case has the power to change my mood, and a black and gold case is not putting me in the summer mood! It’s time to switch it out for bright colors and a bold print.

Winthome Mandala Round Beach Towel with Tassels – Round beach towels in my style are hard to come by. I was lucky to have stumbled upon this one on Amazon. It’s pastel, floral and has tassels- three of my favorite things. Want something a little edgier and less girly? Check out my second favorite round beach towel from Kind & Good!

Lilly Pulitzer Big Flirt Tumbler with Straw – I shared this tumbler in my last post, but it honestly is so essential in my life. If you’ve hung out with me in the real world, you know I drink large amounts of water (or as Katie would say, “I drink more water than a racehorse”). I’m constantly carrying around a water bottle. It is safe to say my tumbler has become an accessory.

Essie Blanc and Essie Muchi, Muchi Nail Polish – I have bought Muchi, Muchi by Essie three times now, so there is no way it wasn’t going to make it onto my list of summer essentials 2016. On the other hand, I bought Essie Blanc for the first time this year, but I know that I will definitely be buying this one again. It’s bright white, so it may seem a little boring in the bottle, but on your nails the color turns into a bold statement for the summer.

Ray-Ban ‘Highstreet’ 49mm Sunglasses – Dark Havana – Circle glasses seem to be making a comeback, and although I could never pull off such a unique frame, I have been obsessing over rounded frames this summer. The ‘Highstreet’ Ray-Ban sunglasses are a good compromise. They are rounded but still have a frame that adds interest and takes away from the harshness of circular lenses.

Triangl Gigi in Strawberry Shortcake – I used to be strongly opposed to triangle bikini tops (as in the shape- not the similarly named brand). I felt they were never flattering; my chest just looked so funny in them! The problem was the thin material and lack of support. Since I first started disliking triangle string bikinis, I’ve found better options. Like the Gigi bikini in Strawberry Shortcake from Triangl and this triangle top from PINK that I purchased earlier this year.

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer – I’ve talked about Jergens Natural Glow on Youtube before. If you’re trying to get a healthy tan before stepping out in your itsy bitsy bikini, I recommend Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer over anything else- even a spray tan. I’ve struggled to find the best tanning solution for myself in the past. I will not do tanning beds, and I have had a few too many failed spray tan attempts. The best spray tan I’ve ever had was when it was done by a professional- not in a booth, but those are also more expensive. Jergens gives me a great tan- just like my best spray tan experience, and it is way cheaper. Another pro is that you can control how dark you want your tan to be. Too light? Apply again. Too dark? Skip a day. The choice is yours.

Rachel Rachel Roy Off-The-Shoulder Flutter-Sleeve Crop Top – To be honest, I don’t have a particular reason for this top to make my list of summer essentials other than it’s flouncy, white and off-the-shoulder (three of my favorite things). The crop top just screams summer to me; you’ll feel like you should be walking down the streets of the Greek Isles in this one.

Jack Rogers Lauren Double-Strap Sandal – These are my favorite pair of Jack Rogers. I normally try to find good deals for you guys, and unfortunately I didn’t with these ones. I think they’re worth it at the full price though. If you are looking for a steal, check out this pair.

Good afternoon! I’m wishing everyone here in the USA a happy late Memorial Day because my Monday post went up early, so I wasn’t in the Memorial Day spirit yet at the time. I hope everyone enjoyed their long holiday weekend and spent it with their friends and family, remembering those who have served our country. I didn’t have any big plans; my mom and I went to visit my brother. We had lunch and went to a farmers market. All in all, it was a pretty great weekend.

Earlier this year I bought this crop top from the Red Dress Boutique and never had the chance to wear it because of the weather. Now, summer is in the air, and I’ve pulled all of my shorts and tank tops from the depths of my closet. I finally got to wear it!!! I paired it with these high waisted, hot pink shorts from Apricot Lane for a preppy, conservative look. Say hi to Ty in my sunglasses!

Being outside right now is my favorite thing. It could be doing anything. Lately I have been biking everywhere and going on long walks. I’ve even started mowing my lawn. You could get me to do anything now, I swear, as long as it is outside. I’ve even decided to start my own garden. Yesterday I planted two jalapeño plants, one green pepper and one orange pepper plant and two cherry tomato plants. Today I am painting pots for basil, oregano, parsley and cilantro. We’re never going to have to go to the grocery store again (okay, that’s a slight exaggeration)! I’m seriously embracing nature this year- even more than last year.

I’m happy to announce that my time with Rocksbox has gotten me back into the swing of accessorizing. In the last month, I’ve bought two new piece of quality jewelry and have actually gotten my use out of them. My jewelry is no longer collecting dust at the bottom of my jewelry box. This cuff bracelet is currently on sale for over 50% off, so make sure to grab it up while it’s still around. While we’re talking about sales; these Jack Rogers are on sale for 53% off!

I also had the amazing opportunity to receive this necklace courtesy of A-List Greek. Moving forward and not knowing quite where I’m going has allowed me to reflect on and embrace all of the special memories I have and places I’ve been. When A-List Greek reached out to me, wanting to share their jewelry with me, I was ecstatic to hear that they offer custom jewelry in addition to their Greek items. A custom coordinates gold bar necklace is something I have been searching for for a while now. So many places offer them, but more often than not, they’re pricey. A-List Greek is extremely affordable and just as high of quality. If you’re looking for custom jewelry, be sure to check out all of the options A-List Greek offers. They have gold, silver and rose gold options in different types of necklaces and bracelets. You can add anything you want onto your jewelry – names, coordinates, phrases, roman numerals.  I’ve been wearing my necklace almost everyday now and no matter where I go, I’ll always have my special place around my neck with me.

I’ve been such a happy camper lately! I’ve never felt so blessed. It truly is the little things in life. While editing these pictures today I was even feeling grateful to live in a place that has a gazebo by the river. What a silly thing to be grateful for, right? But standing in the gazebo in the middle of the night with the roof and pillars lit up all around me, watching the water flow beneath the bridge is the most calming sight I’ve seen in a long time. Whatever graduation has done to me, I like it.

Rocksbox: First Set & Review (with Promo Code!)

Rocksbox Subscription Box Review 2016 & Rocksbox Free Month Promo Code. For $19 a month, receive unlimited designer jewelry to your doorstep.

I’m bad at accessorizing. It’s not because I don’t like accessorizing or I don’t know how. I simply do not have enough jewelry. I like to limit shopping and live on a tight budget (because, you know, college), so whenever I go shopping, I focus on the things I think are most important- like clothes. As a result, my jewelry box always seems to be a bit on the empty side.

Then I started seeing Rocksbox free month promo codes popping up all over the blogosphere, and I was tempted to try it but also hesitant. Whenever a service or company requires reoccurring charges, I get nervous about being charged after my free month. When can I cancel? How can I cancel? If I don’t like a service, I don’t want to be trapped into paying for it. I don’t think that is too much to ask. Apparently, neither does Rocksbox.

There is absolutely zero risk to trying out Rocksbox because they are great about telling you when you will be charged next. When I visit my account, it plainly states that my membership began April 28 and I will be charged May 28. You are able to cancel your account at any point during the month or before the next payment date. You also have the option to put your account on hold for 1, 3 or 6 months.

Am I speaking gibberish to you? Rocksbox and other subscription boxes became widely popular this last year, but in case you don’t know what on Earth I am talking about, let’s talk about Rocksbox.

What Is Rocksbox?

Rocksbox Subscription Box Review 2016 & Rocksbox Free Month Promo Code. For $19 a month, receive unlimited designer jewelry to your doorstep.

Rocksbox is a monthly subscription service that sends you unlimited designer jewelry for the flat rate of $19 a month. To start out, you fill out a short survey to help your personal stylist better understand your style and what you are looking for. You also have the option to select pieces for your  wish list. Rocksbox then sends you three pieces of jewelry at a time. Once you are done wearing the items, you send them back to receive new pieces. If you happen to fall in love with an item when you wear it, you can purchase the item at a discounted, insider price!

My First Set

My first set arrived with two pieces that I selected on my wish list and one item chosen by my stylist. I received:

The Kendra Scott necklace and the Olivia & Grace earrings were the items I picked out myself. Overall, I:

  • Love, love, loved the Rayne Necklace in White Pearl from Kendra Scott.
  • Liked the Lila Earrings in Aqua Quartz from Olivia & Grace.
  • Wasn’t a huge fan of the Long Disc Necklace from Sophie Harper.

The Rayne Necklace in White Pearl from Kendra Scott is just absolutely gorgeous. Really, the Rayne Necklace in any color is beautiful. The White Pearl definitely helps keep it versatile, though. I wore this piece more than any other item in my box, for sure. I won’t be purchasing this item, but in all honesty, I have no idea why. Maybe I want to check out some of the other colors first… Either way, this is definitely a piece that I want to add to my jewelry box sometime in the near future.

I spy with my little eye something that does not match in the picture above… Do you see it? I noticed the minute I pulled them out of the black velvet bag that the two top stones on these earrings didn’t quite match. I don’t know if this is just because of natural variation, if these are two mismatched earrings or if it’s from wear and tear on the jewelry. I decided to go with natural variation, and I wore them. Not next to each other and masked mostly by my long hair, you couldn’t even tell the difference, so all was well. I paired these earrings with a plain white T for a simple, everyday spring look. I won’t be purchasing this item, but I enjoyed having them in my box!

Now…  The Long Disc Necklace from Sophie Harper. What do I say about this one? Well, when I pulled this necklace out of its packaging, it didn’t immediately speak to me or excite me. It is a long necklace. In the card I received outlining my items, it was wrapped twice, creating a double stranded necklace. I tried it on long and double wrapped. Neither were great. If I’m being honest, I haven’t worn this piece yet, and I’m mailing my set back tomorrow, so I probably won’t. It isn’t my favorite, and I don’t think I found anything in my closet that really goes well with it. Every time I tried on this necklace with an outfit, I could always find an accessory that I liked better than this one. I think if I had the perfect outfit for it, I may have gotten some use out if it, but I don’t. I think that’s a sure sign it just isn’t quite my style. Needless to say, I won’t be purchasing this item.

Based on each item in this box, I suppose it gets a 2/3. Overall, I loved my Rockbox experience. It is just so fun. When I checked the tracking information on my package and found that it had been delivered, I ran so fast out of my front door and down to the mailbox. Rocksbox is seriously a fun, unique way to shop for jewelry. My worrying about the cancelation process wasn’t necessary, because I won’t be canceling my account just yet. I definitely want to try another month of Rocksbox. As I rate more and more jewelry, it only seems likely that my stylist will understand my style even better each time, and I’ll get more and more pieces that I love.
