Hello real world, hello acne. I’ve shared my acne story on the blog before. It wasn’t until after high school and into college that I every experienced any real acne. Now? It’s even worse! Wether it’s changing hormones, new real-world stressed or environmental factors, I’ve been in a battle the past few months to revamp my acne-fighting routine to fit my new skin situation. After sifting through some terrible products and mediocre purchases, I finally landed on the five best acne products for my skin (AKA the diamonds in the rough).
*When trying out new products of any kind, I recommend switching over one at a time so you can better gauge which products are actually giving you results. If you try five new products at the same time, then find yourself having better skin, you may be attributing all of your new products to your recent success, wasting money and not giving credit where credit is due.
So, after a long process, here’s what’s worked best for me:
The 5 Best Acne Products
1. Tea Tree Oil
I’ve very quickly become an essential oil enthusiast. If I can use an essential oil for it, I will! I use tea tree oil specifically as a spot treatment. If I have a particularly pesky pimple, I’ll rub tea tree on the spot after washing off my makeup at night to dry it out. I personally apply the oil with my finger, but I do recommend a cotton swab or pad so that you don’t overdo it! I love that tea tree is a completely natural antibacterial substitute for harsh chemicals. Interested in a DIY? Try a tea tree oil face mask with a base oil!
2. Frankincense Oil
Frankincense oil can at times seems like a catch-all oil. What can’t frankincense oil do?! It’s been said that frankincense can reduce inflammation, increase spiritual awareness, boost immunity, fight infections, improve anxiety and reduce acne and scarring. Over the last few months, I’ve accumulated some acne scars on my left cheek. After rubbing frankincense oil on them each night, they’re still not gone, but I’ve been seeing improvements. Overtime, the possibilities are endless. I have hope they’ll continue to fade away with frankincense’s help. If you don’t feel like adding another step to your routine, try adding frankincense to your daily facial moisturizer for ease of use!
3. BareMineral Night Treatment
Being new to the whole acne thing made me slightly (okay, really) self conscious to take my makeup off around anyone. The BareMineral Night Treatment, even though it’s labeled as clear, actually has a bit of a tint to it, which means that at night, not only can I treat my skin, but I can also hide my blemishes. Now, don’t get me wrong. I don’t think you have to hide your blemishes whatsoever. Own your skin, girl! But sometimes even the best of us need that little extra confidence boost. Why not take it while you’re also helping your skin heal? This is definitely the most expensive product on this list, but I highly recommend adding it to your nighttime routine. You won’t be sorry!
4. Pacifica Kale Detox
That feeling when you’ve washed your face twice and still think you have makeup caked on? So frustrating. I’m a firm believe I shouldn’t have to wash my face twice. I don’t wear that much makeup! With this Pacifica Kale Detox Deep Cleaning Face Wash, my skin truly does feel detoxed and clean. I’ve almost finished my first tube of this face wash, and I plan on buying it again… and again. I love it.
5. Shea Terra Rose Hips Black Soap Deep Pore Facial Wash
When I have the time, I choose to use this Shea Terra Rose Hips Black Soap Deep Pore Facial Wash over anything. I’m giving you fair warning… I repeat… I’m giving you fair warning: this stuff does not smell good. I can’t quite put my finger on what it actually smells like (maybe bark?), but the affects are worth the smell. I wash off my makeup, leave this rose hips facial wash on my still damp face for 5–10 minutes while it dries and then wash off in circular motions. My skin feels so smooth afterward — almost like a layer of dry skin has come off my face. For all I know, maybe it has! Regardless, this stuff is great! I swear, it has reduced my pores, evened redness and cleared up my skin more than any other product I’ve tried. I highly, highly recommend.
So! There you have it. My tried and true products. I want to know: What do you think are the best acne products?I’m always on the lookout for new products to try. Have you tried any of my favorites? Share in the comments below!
